Exciting Things Update!!!

Time for another thrilling edition of Everything I'm Pumped About But Couldn't Post In A Timely Manner! First of all, I just thought this photo of Bradford Cox (Deerhunter/Atlas Sound) was pretty cool. It was taken at the Primavera Sound Festival last week by Erez Avissar.

I discovered this single by Ikons on a new blog I've been following. Can't find much info on this band online, but their label offers lots of free streaming. It's hard to pin what their style is, but if "Ride meets Pink Floyd" intrigues you, I'd recommend taking a listen.

Here's the video for Lazuli, off Beach House's excellent new LP, Bloom. I was wrong in thinking this album would closely resemble Teen Dream, the band's acclaimed last release. While the key elements (arpeggiated synth lines and Victoria Legrand's androgynous vocals) remain intact, Bloom seems even more cohesive and mature than the band's previous works.

Hooray! Grizzly Bear just released this new single, along with tour and album announcements! I will be seeing them at the Orpheum in September, and I'm anxious to hear the rest of the album! It's hard to believe Veckatimist was out three years ago, but we are absolutely due for a new taste of Grizzly Bear!!

Patrick Watson - Adventures In Your Own Backyard

When I saw Andrew Bird early last month, Patrick Watson was the opening artist. I thoroughly enjoyed his set, and have since fallen in love with his 2012 record, Adventures in Your Own Backyard. Watson's eclectic style ranges from folk to classical to jazz to progressive rock (uneven time signatures!), and his wonderfully smoky voice adds to the complexity of his sound. Somehow, it all blends together within the album to create a unique and compelling auditory journey. In a time where I've had difficulty finding music I can really commit to, this is a record I can play on repeat without losing interest. Hooray! Stream New Sigur Rós - Valtari

The album is out May 28, but luckily, NPR is offering a free stream and I simply can't get enough. This Icelandic band can do no wrong, seriously. They have a knack of ripping the emotion right out of you with huge, sweeping, heart-wrenchingly beautiful melodies. Valtari has less of the band's signature "big moments" but if you slap on your noise-canceling headphones, you'll find your brain clinging to each twinkling note. Stream it now, and check out the interesting (and informative!) video below.

Lower Dens - Propagation

Here's a song that keeps catching my eye (ear?) on different blogs. Off Lower Dens' recent LP, Nootropics, Propagation is what would happen if you shoe-gazed the band Beach House. Not sure how I feel about the rest of the album, but it's been receiving positive reviews so I may need to give it a second try. Watch the eerie video, directed by Sebastian Mlynarski, below!
