Check This Out! Dr. Stromberg and the Nurses

My little brother has been playing in a sort of revolving-door ska band since about 2009. Practicing on Sunday evenings with whoever happens to be in town (or the country), they have managed to take leaps in the style and quality of their music. Seeing these kids play at local shows has always been a treat, and they have just released two original tracks. Hopefully there will be more where that came from! HOORAY! Record Store Day is here again! I'm still working out the details, but my Saturday plan involves a grand tour of New Hampshire record stores with two of my favorite friends. The official website has conveniently listed who's playing where and what artists are releasing material, so I've been able to prepare a rough schedule (and wishlist). Awesome.

One record I'm definitely hoping to snag is The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends. This is a series of experimental collaborations between the Lips and other artists like Tame Impala, Yoko Ono, Neon Indian, and Edward Sharpe. In true Flaming Lips fashion, a select few of these records will have the literal blood of these artists embedded in them. I won't be seeking out these copies though. Exciting Things Update, Part 2 !!!

I'm obsessed with this little number from Ireland's Liz Lawrence. The title track off her debut LP, "Bedroom Hero" has become my spring anthem. Take a listen above, you'll probably play it about 6 more times before the day's over.

Beach House announced their upcoming LP, Bloom, with the dreamy single below. No surprises here- "Myth" sounds like it could be a B-side off 2009's Teen Dream. The new album comes out May 15, to accompany the band's summer tour. Boston's not on the list as of yet, but hopefully they'll add us in!



Lastly, Sigur Ros has ALSO announced a new album and tour!! The band has released a select few dates, the closest of which is in Montreal. I really hope they play around here because I would HATE to miss that show. Listen to "Ekki Múkk" below and grab your copy of Valtari on May 28!
